Family values are under attack by UK Government

It is difficult to believe that at a time when families are facing the greatest challenges they have known in three generations our own elected politicians are trying to steal from us the most fundamental of freedoms – parents' human right to be parents.

There are many examples of how the state is eroding the rights of privacy, independence and self-determination of every person in this country. Now at a time when every part of our society is suffering from the effects global collapse our government has launched yet another onslaught against families who have chosen the path of home education.

Parents who home educate their children believe that they are the people who know their children best and can provide the safe, nurturing and loving education that will allow their children to flourish.

On the 20 th January 2009 Baroness Morgan of Drefelin, the Children's Minister, ordered a review of the rules covering the estimated 20,000 home-educated children in England.

The headlines in three newspapers that day said:

Home education 'can be cover for abuse and forced marriage'

“Thousands of children supposedly educated at home by their parents are at risk of abuse, neglect, forced marriage, sexual exploitation or domestic servitude, the Government said yesterday.”

This review, consultation and the reporting of its launch have, understandably, caused outrage in the Home Education community. The statement is unsupported by any evidence, is intentionally sensorial and has no relationship to truth. It is, quite simply, a sign of a system gone mad throwing accusations at anyone they can target to deflect attention from the crumbling educational and welfare systems that time and again fail the people they are supposed to protect.

This website has been set up by very concerned people to convey the real truth surrounding what is happening. To be a place where people can see what home education really means and how our elected government are telling parents that they can not be trusted to be parents, that government agencies know far better what is in the interests of children

We disagree. It is parents who know what is in the best interests of their children and it is the state who is wrecking family values with their damaging, ineffectual and destructive policies that are robbing the people of this country of their freedoms.

This is a site for real people worried about a political system that seems more intent on satisfying budgets and promoting business than respecting the people who pay their wages. They have, seemingly, forgotten that they are there to serve us, not dictate to us what we may do in our private lives.
